We LOVE sunset photography!
Twilight, or, the golden hour is that hour before sunset when everything looks amazing! Whenever we can, we hold our engagement photography and couple’s portrait photography session at sunset. Being based in Adelaide means that we are spoilt when it comes to photography at sunset. With the coast to the west and hills to the east, Adelaide continuously provides us with spectacular sunsets.
Most of the time our sunset photography is blessed with soft pastel tones of pink and purple, but once in a while the stars align, the sky lights up, treating us with bright oranges, fiery reds, and the deepest of purples!
As a rule, we do not paint extra colours or fake our sunset photos in Photoshop – this brightly lit sky, in all its majestic tones, is the real deal!
We love sunset photography for engagements in Adelaide.
You may be asking, “how do you capture engagement sunset photography like this?”
Well, simply put you have to be in the right place at the right time. Luckily, this happened at Tegan and Dale’s engagement photography session.
We met Tegan and Dale at one of our favourite locations for both engagement and wedding photography in Adelaide – Mount Osmond Reserve. Unbeknownst to us, a dust storm warning had just been issued for much of South Australia! Together we set off for a walk around the beautiful reserve to photograph newly engaged couple and the views over the city and coast.
Ten minutes into our shoot, with a sudden gust of wind, the view was blocked by a thick cloud of red dust!
A dust storm plus rain clouds equals epic sunset photography!
Being the champions they are, Tegan + Dale wanted to continue with the pre-wedding shoot despite the dust storm and increasingly strong winds. We trekked up to the top of hilly reserve and were greeted with a sunset to rival all others.
By this point in time, the dust had passed, leaving a red haze in the air, and a storm system had moved in to take its place. The sun dropped to peak out underneath the thick blanket of clouds, lighting up the sky with particles of orange dust and purple rain clouds. If you are into sunset photography – a night like this is a dream come true!
We have to thank Tegan and Dale for braving the winds, climbing a steep hill, and smiling the whole way through. We are incredibly lucky to meet so many adventurous couples willing to share these sunsets with us.
